I recently moved and decided to switch to http://www.direct4tv.com/ for all my television needs, and I saw a special on television about the world of self-publishing. It seems that because the writing market is becoming increasingly over saturated with people trying to be the next J.K. Rowling, it has become harder for writers to get their foot in the door the traditional way. Back in the day, you use to have to send a typed and printed manuscript to a publisher with a self-addressed stamped envelope. You’d stick that thing in the mailbox and that was it – hope for the best. However, because of advances in technology and e-readers, it seems that self-publishing is the way many writers are getting discovered these days.
You might have heard about different self-publishing groups that help writers get in touch with publishers. Services like Amazon now make it ten times easier for writers to get their work out to a wider audience and, thanks to the latest in e-reader technology; it is easier for people to get these books on the go. Publishers also look at these self-published works and the reception they get and, as a result, many people who self-publish using this method have been picked up by publishers.

E-books offer many advantages than traditional hard copy books. They are less expensive to make, easier to sell, easy to promote and helps the environment. Once thought of as the last hope for the beginning author, now even established authors release electronic books or make sure their publishers place their books in e-format for their fans.
