E-books offer many advantages than traditional hard copy books. They are less expensive to make, easier to sell, easy to promote and helps the environment. Once thought of as the last hope for the beginning author, now even established authors release electronic books or make sure their publishers place their books in e-format for their fans.

Disadvantages of Traditional Publishing

It is practically impossible for a beginning author to get a traditional book deal. Publishers are so inundated with manuscripts that they may automatically reject any not submitted by a literary agent. Publishing houses will only produce manuscripts that they feel have a large market.

Publishing houses no longer promote new authors. So even if a new author manages to land a book deal, there will be second book deal because of poor sales. This means the author has to promote his or her own books. This is incredibly expensive and easily runs into five figures.

E-book Ease

With e-books, writers can bypass begging to traditional publishers and go straight to print. All publicity can be done on-line for little expense instead of in-person at book signing event. Authors do not have to worry about selling out a print run because e-books do not print any extra copies.
